for treatment of motor fluctuations in adults with
advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). Vyalev is the first
subcutaneously administered product to become
available in the US for treatment of PD symptoms. Duopa,
a carbidopa/levodopa enteral suspension infused via a
nasojejunal tube or percutaneous gastrostomy, was
approved in for the same indication 2015.

Remestemcel-L (Ryoncil – Mesoblast), an allogeneic
bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cell
therapy, has been approved by the FDA for treatment
of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease
(GVHD) in patients ≥2 months old. Steroid-refractory
GVHD is associated with a poor prognosis, organ
damage, and death, particularly in pediatric patients.
Remestemcel-L is the first cellular therapy to be
approved in the US for this indication and the only
treatment of any kind to be approved for GVHD in
children <12 years old.

The FDA has approved the over-the-counter (OTC)
sale of Nasacort Allergy 24HR (Sanofi), a triamcinolone
acetonide nasal spray previously available only
by prescription as Nasacort AQ. The OTC product,
which is scheduled to be marketed in the spring of
2014, will be the first corticosteroid nasal spray that
can be purchased without a prescription in the US.
Nasacort Allergy 24HR is approved for use in patients
≥2 years old with nasal allergy symptoms.
